The best law firm and lawyer websites are websites that demonstrate their firms’ commitment to their clients.

Your grandfather might have trouble finding contact information on a desktop computer. However, your niece might have an easier time finding your Twitter handle from her smartphone. In addition, the site also has only three top-level items in the navigation bar.

If your website is difficult to use or frustrating, you will lose prospective clients. In this regard, your website is often your first point of contact with a new client. Failure on the Internet can tell a person that your firm may fail them down the road.

Adequate security will also inspire trust among your visitors and make your website appear more professional. When you work with us, we’ll ensure your site meets all the necessary security requirements. As part of your brand identity process, you’ve determined what types of images or graphics fit well for your firm, make sure that all of the imagery is consistent with that initial guideline. Now that you’ve laid the design groundwork, it’s time to set up the structure of your website. This will help determine the navigation in your menu, as well as how your linking will be established.

How do I log in to the forum on the day of the event?

Motto offers a micro-hotel with an urban vibe in prime global locations. A luxury collection of distinctive hotels and resorts offering singular service and local experiences. I also had a chance to check out some of the event venues, since I was at the hotel for a wedding. The main ballroom felt especially historic, but the staff was friendly and accommodating, and the catering was very good overall. The executive lounge offered an evening happy hour as well, including a full bar. I actually had to walk through the lounge to get to and from the elevators, which was fine most of the time, except when the space was packed for Sunday breakfast (not pictured).

NEW INDOOR POOL

Located within walking distance to Chicago's theater district, Navy Pier, and other top attractions, The Palmer House Hilton offers a luxurious and convenient stay in the heart of the city. Whether visiting for business or pleasure, guests will find themselves immersed in the rich history and vibrant culture of downtown Chicago. Scoring an upgrade to the executive floor made a big difference overall, since we could use the express elevators, but the lounge itself was overwhelmingly crowded, especially toward the end of Sunday breakfast and throughout the evening happy hours. Ultimately, while it's a decent business hotel, if a peaceful getaway is what you're after, Palmer House is not your spot. This double room is located on high floors, with private elevator access, upscale bath amenities, in-room premium WiFi (free). Featuring a dining area with a wet bar, this spacious one-bedroom suite offers handicap-accessible amenities and a separate seating area.

Her request was simple, a cake-like confection that could easily be transported to the fair within a boxed lunch. The result was the Palmer House Brownie, made of chocolate to comprise a fudge-like density and topped with a decadent walnut and apricot glaze. The dessert first published reference as “the brownie” following the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893, was when it appeared in the Sears Roebuck Catalog published in Chicago in 1898. Enjoy the indoor, heated, and recreational swimming pool with locker rooms.

The Beginnings of Our History

Its proximity to major attractions, coupled with exceptional on-site amenities, makes The Palmer House Hilton a standout destination. Experience a throwback to the Prohibition era speakeasy, paying homage to this notorious period in Chicago’s illustrious history with a sophisticated lounge atmosphere bedecked with rotating digital historic imagery. The failed mobile check-in ended up working out in my favor, though, since I then used the chat tool to request an upgrade, landing myself an executive-level king room, free of charge. The hotel offered an upgrade to a Hip & Historic Suite for $100, and wouldn't budge on the price, despite some Hilton properties offering suites to Diamond members without an upgrade charge. Beyond the Mai Tai, Bergeron's other more famous drinks included the Fog Cutter and the Scorpion Bowl.[12] Both drinks were served in a specific and highly decorated mug or bowl. From stunning rooftop pools to family-friendly water parks, our hotels offer a variety of aquatic escapes for guests of all ages to enjoy during their stay.

LLM workshops will be available for forum registrants to view on-demand in the digital forum platform, and a live Graduate Law Programs Workshop will be available during the digital forums. However, there won’t be any LLM, master’s, or certificate program workshops at the in- person forums. Each year, LSAC Law School Forums serve as invaluable opportunities for aspiring law students to learn about law school and connect with law school representatives.

And historic it is — in fact, in the case of some of the public areas and ballrooms, I doubt much has changed since Hilton took over the property way back in 1945. Aside from the lightbulbs, perhaps, and property-wide Wi-Fi. In recent years the historic Chicago hotel, Palmer House, a Hilton Hotel has undergone a $170 million renovation to ensure that it includes all of the conveniences and comforts our 21st century guests expect while also preserving our significant history. Clearly “the Chicago hotel the world knows best” has positioned itself for the next era in downtown Chicago accommodations–and the next generation of Palmer House Hilton with a hip and historic outlook.

Hilton doesn't list the square footage for some room types, since they can vary significantly from one room to the next, given the historic nature of this particular hotel. The hotel's majesty diminished once the elevator doors opened up, leaving us in a long hallway that felt anything but hip. Ideally, I'd avoid parking a car if you can, though, given the sky-high parking fees — $55 for self-parking, or a whopping $82 per night for valet.

The rooms and suites are thoughtfully designed to balance comfort and functionality perfectly. From standard guestrooms to accessible options, Palmer House, a Hilton Hotel, offers a range of authentic accommodations. However, only 13 days after its grand opening, the Palmer House fell victim to the Great Chicago Fire. Determined to rebuild his hotel, Potter secured a $1.7 million loan–negotiated on his signature alone. On November 8, 1873, the new Palmer House welcomed its first guests, marking the opening of what would become the nation’s longest continually operating hotel.

Children 18 years and above will be charged as adults at this property. Only issue was that the tub did not have any type of grab bar and was deep. Even my younger daughter had difficulty entering and exiting. Perhaps one of Palmer House’s greatest and most recognizable culinary contributions was the invention of the brownie. This year, the hotel will be celebrating the brownie’s 130th anniversary on December 8th, National Brownie Day. In 1893, Bertha Palmer tasked the Palmer House pastry chef Joseph Sehl with a dessert suitable for ladies attending the Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition.

Expert Web Design for Lawyers

law firm website design

Although you could do it yourself for free, website builders make the do-it-yourself approach to creating a law firm website much easier. Our list of the best website builders should put you on the right track to finding the site builder you need. Mobile responsiveness is a must in today’s world, where clients are just as likely to be searching for an attorney on their mobile devices as they are from their desktops. This means it’s essential for your website to function as well on mobile as it does on a monitor or laptop screen—no matter the size of the device or the orientation (vertical or horizontal).

of the Best Law Firm Website Designs to Learn From

Check out Astra’s law firm website templates designed by professionals with tons of research in the law field. Frame your legal services in terms of problem-solution, emphasizing the real world problems that your clients likely have. You should always aim to have your website be free of legal jargon. It is likely that your potential clients won’t understand the nuances of the legal profession or the message you’re trying to communicate.

Industry Leader

This will help build credibility and eventually persuade clients that you can help them win their cases. ‘Organized’ is definitely a word that comes to mind upon seeing this site. Each of the firm’s practice areas are clearly explained on the homepage, along with an image to illustrate the idea and a ‘Learn More’ button to help guide visitors to the relevant page for them. The defined color scheme of white, plus two shades of blue, remains cohesive throughout every page.

Experience with law firm and lawyer website design

This will leave mainly text behind, so you’ll easily see whether or not you’ve arranged the information on your site correctly. For a small law firm, a developer should be able to create a comprehensive and unique design scheme, with proper training and support, for a few thousand dollars. Keep in mind, though, that the number of pages, content support, and additional features involved can affect the overall cost. No matter how a potential client finds a lawyer, they will go online to learn more information. For example, according to the 2019 Legal Trends Report, 57% of consumers looked for a lawyer on their own. The most common research methods were using an online search engine (17%) and visiting a lawyer’s website (17%).

It’s exciting to be innovative and different on your lawyer website design–but it’s not recommended to do so with your site’s navigation. If navigating the site is not intuitive to the majority of users, your site is not going to perform well and users aren’t going to find the information they’re looking for. As an experienced web design agency with an in-house team of award-winning designers and developers, WebFX can help your law firm get the most value from its site. Plus, you’ll have access to our digital marketing services, from content marketing to online advertising.

Basically, law firm SEO means using strategies to ensure your site ranks well in search engines and is easy to find. Accessibility comes in many forms, and having an accessible website is key for connecting with any and all potential clients. There are technical ways to make your website accessible to people with low vision who may be using screen readers, or to people with mobility concerns who may be using alternatives to a mouse.

With a Clio Grow website, you can use a subdomain (yourlawfirmname.cliogrow.com) or replace this with a custom domain that you own or purchase. Your law firm website is automatically optimized to look great across devices. You can also connect intake forms and appointment scheduling to your website with the click of a button. Our copywriting team can provide you with the professional, SEO-friendly copy you need. Website security is essential for protecting you and your website visitors.

Regardless of your law firm’s practice area, your law firm’s website should make a first impression that sticks. At a first glance, the Norton Rose Fulbright website is nothing special. However, scrolling a bit down, you’ll see a short summary of their main industries, fields of practice and number of legal attorneys and offices.

The lawyer’s area of specialization is clearly stated at the top of the page, placed on a strip that stays put while you scroll down. There’s also an online form, encouraging clients to get in touch right away. Philip Reich hired a professional web designer to create his website, and the payoff is obvious. It's sleek and professional, subliminally communicating to potential clients that he is a reliable and legitimate mediator. The text box that's splashed across the hero image of a boardroom is a particularly clever idea. It toggles between two messages, both of which capture Philip's qualifications in a single sentence.

I always received a response within a few minutes, but several confirmed requests never materialized, such as the robes I ordered and the Valentine's Day welcome I confirmed before arrival. After checking my name off a list, the host handed me this fun HHonors Gold Member casino chip, which my server promptly collected before instructing me to head straight to the buffet. As a Diamond member, I was entitled to a continental breakfast in the main restaurant, too, which I preferred, given the larger space and selection. Breakfast was included for anyone with access, and included a mix of fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee (that the staff didn't seem in much of a hurry to replace whenever it ran out, which was frequently). I decided to upgrade to the full buffet, though, which got me access to hot dishes and made-to-order omelets for an extra $8. I wasn't a fan of the lighting, though, especially in the bathroom — the lights were fluorescent and a bit too bright, especially during visits in the middle of the night. The bed was decently comfortable, and the room was quiet overall, despite overlooking a busy street. Still, our room felt decently large — I would have been a bit disappointed had Hilton decided to label this a studio suite, but as a standard guest room, it fit the bill.

Palmer House, a Hilton Hotel is a member of Historic Hotels of America®, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels across America. It was the first hotel to incorporate the light bulb, the telephone, and the vertical steam lift (elevator) as well as being the creator of one of the world’s most adored confection, the brownie.

I've stayed at many "brand-new" hotels over the years — as both a product reviewer and an average Joe, I tend to seek them out. Hotels that bill themselves as historic, meanwhile, remain an occasional curiosity, if for nothing more than a quick look. A proposed Underground Railroad corridor highlighting Harriet Tubman's fight for freedom

Leach was a political leader and editor of the Ocean Wave newspaper, where he often wrote accounts of enslaved people that fled to Cape May. In addition to leading more than 300 enslaved people to freedom, Harriet Tubman helped ensure the final defeat of slavery in the United States by aiding the Union during the American Civil War. She served as a scout and a nurse, though she received little pay or recognition. Between 1850 and 1860, Tubman made over a dozen journeys across the Mason-Dixon line, guiding family and friends from slavery to freedom.

During this period, the dream of freedom had spread across antebellum plantations and Tubman’s visions were no different. First, her father was set free when she was about eighteen, and then she also learned that the last will of her previous owner manumitted Tubman’s family. However, her new owner refused to acknowledge this and Tubman’s mother, Tubman herself and her siblings remained in bondage.

To memorialize and ensure sustainability of her work, Harriet Tubman wanted to see her home established as an incorporated organization that would continue in her name. When Harriet Tubman purchased her 7-acre parcel from Frances Seward in 1859, the transfer of land to a self-emancipated person was illegal under the Fugitive Slave Act. Frances Seward was breaking the law and taking a large risk to help Harriet Tubman have her own land. Frances (correctly) thought that since her husband, William Seward, was a powerful politician in New York State that no action would be taken against them. A historical marker on Maryland's Eastern Shore contains errors about the story of Harriet Tubman, who grew up nearby.

Tubman, known as the Moses of Her People, was a courageous fighter who delivered hundreds of slaves to freedom on her Underground Railroad and promoted black education, social betterment, and women's rights. In 1857, she moved to Auburn where she was provided a two-story brick home by William H. Seward, the US Senator from New York. As a conductor on the Underground Railroad (a network of abolitionists that helped slaves escape to freedom), she made a dozen trips south over a period of 11 years. Tubman died in 1913 at her South Street property, and is buried at Fort Hill Cemetery. The present-day site includes a Welcome Center and the Harriet Tubman Home for the Aged. Rewards were offered by slaveholders for Tubman’s capture, while Abolitionists celebrated her courage.

Born into slavery between about 1820 and 1825, Tubman grew up in antebellum Dorchester County. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, she was forced to work from a young age, alternatively acting as a nursemaid, a field hand, a cook and a woodcutter. Tasked with degrading duties, Tubman often disregarded orders, leading her overseers to switch her from domestic assignments to more arduous labor in the fields. Nearby, Schablitsky unearthed ceramic fragments dated to between the 1820s and 1840s.

African American Civil Rights Movement

Personal objects like her hymnal reveal her domestic life as a wife and mother, and the devout religious beliefs that inspired her to “conduct” hundreds of African Americans to freedom from bondage. After approximately 13 trips south, rescuing 70 enslaved persons, the "Woman called Moses" settled in Auburn. Come and experience the indomitable spirit of this remarkable woman at the Home for the Aged, the Tubman residence, the Infirmary ruins and related sites.

This brick building was where Tubman and her family lived during their time in Auburn. Unfortunately, as of the summer of 2019, the home was undergoing renovations and wasn’t open to the public to tour. Hopefully someday soon, the house will be open for tours as it would be really neat to see the inside of where Tubman lived. In 1859, Tubman bought a piece of land in Auburn, New York from Senator (and future Secretary of State) William H. Seward. This land was where she and her family lived for much of the rest of their lives.

Visiting the Harriet Tubman House and Gravesite in Auburn, NY

The park in Auburn was established on January 10, 2017 at a signing ceremony at the US Department of the Interior in Washington, DC. US Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell was joined by New York lawmakers and local and federal officials in creating the 51st National Historical Park and the 414th US national park system unit. Nelson Davis, Tubman’s second husband, was a brick maker and helped rebuild her house. He replaced the original wood structure with brick, making it stronger and longer lasting. Overall, it’s worth taking the time to visit the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in Auburn, NY. While tours sadly don’t go into her actual home, they offer a wealth of information and really helped me to better understand and appreciate the life and impact of Harriet Tubman.

Tubman knew that in order for Brodess’s wife to pay her husband’s debts, she needed to sell some of her slaves. Tubman did not want to be sold away from her family and into the even more brutal conditions of slavery in the deep South. In the fall of 1849, she escaped from slavery alone, and found freedom in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In Philadelphia, Tubman made connections and found support among other black and white abolitionists.

In 1903 as she was unable to make tax payments on the property, she donated it to the AME Zion Church with the condition that the church would continue to operate the home, that way her dream would outlive her. It took 5 years to fully staff and equip the home and on June 23, 1908 the Harriet Tubman Home for the Elderly was inaugurated. Tubman continued to live in her residence until her health deteriorated and could not take care of herself. The community rallied around Harriet and made plans to build a new brick house for her. Constructed between 1881 and 1882, the new brick house we see today was erected on a foundation of cut Onondaga limestone laid upon the subsurface rubble stone footing of the old house.

But it could also be a song of liberation, where the lyrics held coded messages that told of when Underground Railroad conductors like Harriet Tubman would arrive to assist in stealing away to freedom. This is a small-scale version of Saar’s 13 feet tall monument to Harriet Tubman that stands in Harriet Tubman Memorial Plaza, in south Harlem at St. Nicholas Avenue and Frederick Douglass Boulevard at West 122nd Street. Harriet Tubman was guided by a deep faith and devotion to family, freedom, and community.

The community opening for the church and the parsonage next door, also part of the park, is set for June 22. She spent the last 50 years of her remarkable life in Auburn, New York, a haven for a number of progressive causes. It was where William Henry Seward, President Abraham Lincoln's Secretary of State, and his wife, Frances, offered their friendship and support. When Tubman was around 12 or 13 years old, she sustained a life-changing injury. After she refused to help an overseer restrain another enslaved person, he threw an iron weight at the man in hopes of stopping him. But the weight struck Tubman in the head, delivering a glancing blow whose aftereffects plagued her for the rest of her life.

Edwards drew inspiration from Art Deco design to create this purple color-blocked manicure. For this look, you'll need two shades of purple — a lavender and a dark grape — plus a crisp, opaque white. To create the grid pattern, use a striping nail stencil (like this one) and a thin nail art brush for control. Placing blue, green, and gold chrome atop a nude base creates a stunning iridescent finish. This look also employs 3D gel to create a raised design across all of the nails. While gel manicures have gained considerable popularity, acrylics remain the OGs of the manicure world.

Harriet Tubman: Facts, Underground Railroad & Legacy

harriet tubman house

Tubman had been living in North Street in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada West since 1851; that was her home and her base of operation. She had brought her parents and her entire family to St. Catharines where they lived safe from slave catchers. But Tubman could not resist the offer and in 1858 Tubman and Senator Seaward sealed the deal for $1,200.

Church, illness, and death

Her family would travel between St. Catharines and Auburn depending on which was safest for them at the time. Canada had outlawed slavery by this time and becomes a haven for African American freedom seekers. Her brothers would settle in St. Catharines in Canada in a community of other Black freedom seekers.

Harriet Tubman National Historical Park/Harriet Tubman Home

Between 1850 and 1860, Tubman returned to the Eastern Shore of Maryland 13 times and freed more than 70 family and friends so that they could be free together. Harriet Tubman was an escaped enslaved woman who became a “conductor” on the Underground Railroad, leading enslaved people to freedom before the Civil War, all while carrying a bounty on her head. Tubman is one of the most recognized icons in American history and her legacy has inspired countless people from every race and background. In the wooden home already on the property, Harriet Tubman’s parents, brothers, nieces, and nephews would be protected by her powerful abolitionist friends during the Civil War. Harriet rescued her brothers, James, John, and William and some of their family members in 1854 when she received word that they might be sold.

"I would make a home for them in the North, and the Lord helping me, I would bring them all here."

Harriet was heartbroken when not only did John refuse to come with her, but he had also moved on and married another woman. She would be successful in rescuing her elderly parents, Ben and Rit, and bringing them to Canada after they were facing prosecution for helping others escape. Auburn, NY was a hub for abolitionists in the mid-1800s and had ties to Philadelphia, PA where Harriet Tubman lived immediately after she escaped from slavery in Maryland. While in Philadelphia, Harriet met many influential abolitionists, including William Still, the African American Purvis extended family, Lucretia Coffin Mott, and Frederick Douglass. William Still would keep records of freedom seekers passing through Philadelphia and he interviewed Harriet and her brothers on one of her trips. Harriet’s allies in Philadelphia would aid her greatly in leading her family and friends north.

African American Civil Rights Movement

A pioneer in what it means to be regarded as an icon, Harriet Tubman served as a physical manifestation of liberation for many. On the bicentennial of her birth, this dynamic woman of many trades continues to be revered as an American hero and a symbol of freedom. Objects related to Harriet’s life highlight her impact on her contemporaries—such as the shawl gifted to her by Queen Victoria to acknowledge her international impact.

Escape from Slavery

A proposed 500-mile Underground Railroad Corridor across New York would highlight the life of Harriet Tubman, who escaped slavery in Maryland in 1849 and then returned on numerous occasions to help free more enslaved people. After the Civil War Tubman settled in Auburn and began taking in orphans and the elderly, a practice that eventuated in the Harriet Tubman Home for Indigent Aged Negroes. The home later attracted the support of former abolitionist comrades and the citizens of Auburn, and it continued in existence for some years after her death. Tubman also became involved in various other causes, including women’s suffrage.

Over the course of her illustrious life, Tubman directly rescued 70 slaves during 13 trips back to slave-holding states. For the decade following her escape to freedom, Harriet Tubman devoted her energy to helping her friends and family attain their own emancipation. As the most famous conductor on the Underground Railroad, she was almost constantly on the move between Canada and Maryland. In that time, she rarely had an opportunity to establish a home base for herself.

cape may: A nexus between north and south

Early in life, she suffered a traumatic head wound when an irate overseer threw a heavy metal weight, intending to hit another slave, but hit her instead. The injury caused dizziness, pain, and spells of hypersomnia, which occurred throughout her life. After her injury, Tubman began experiencing strange visions and vivid dreams, which she ascribed to premonitions from God. These experiences, combined with her Methodist upbringing, led her to become devoutly religious. She soon returned to the south to lead her niece and her niece’s children to Philadelphia via the Underground Railroad. At one point, she tried to bring her husband John north, but he’d remarried and chose to stay in Maryland with his new wife.

Harriet Tubman (born c. 1820, Dorchester county, Maryland, U.S.—died March 10, 1913, Auburn, New York) was an American bondwoman who escaped from slavery in the South to become a leading abolitionist before the American Civil War. She led dozens of enslaved people to freedom in the North along the route of the Underground Railroad—an elaborate secret network of safe houses organized for that purpose. When the Civil War began, Tubman worked for the Union Army, first as a cook and nurse, and then as an armed scout and spy. For her guidance of the raid at Combahee Ferry, which liberated more than 700 enslaved people, she is widely credited as the first woman to lead an armed military operation in the United States. After the war, she retired to the family home on property she had purchased in 1859 in Auburn, New York, where she cared for her aging parents. She was active in the women's suffrage movement until illness overtook her and was admitted to a home for elderly African Americans, which she helped establish years earlier.

In 2009, Charles L. Blockson, a historian and expert on the Underground Railroad, donated to the Museum a collection of items relating to Harriet Tubman’s life and legacy that were collected and given to him by Tubman’s descendants. Items such as a fork and knife from the Tubman household demystify and ground Tubman, giving her a sense of personhood. Tubman is depicted on the cover as a fierce and courageous figure, and the danger of her work as conductor is palpable in the rifle she carries to protect herself and those she leads to freedom.

A primed field hand, she was described as a “small, muscular woman” standing at 4’11”, yet carrying half cords of wood like any other man in the fields. She was often seen with her skirt looped around her waist and a vividly colored bandanna tied around her head. Most Americans are familiar with the name and heroism of Underground Railroad conductor and Civil War spy Harriet Tubman. So Maryland Department of Transportation archaeologist Julie Schablitsky set out to find the lost site in Dorchester County, Md. The Harriet Tubman Home, Inc. is an independent non-profit established by the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church to manage and operate the homestead of Ms. Tubman. The Harriet Tubman Home is charged with sharing Harriet Tubman's core values with visitors through a guided tour of the property.

In fact,Tubman’s mother who spent the winter of 1857 and 1858 in Canada was happy to move, she found Canadian winters unbearable. When Tubman left for the Civil War her parents, who were old and fragile, stayed in Auburn and were looked after by friends. Kuhl added that the corridor could also boost tourism efforts around the state, including along the Erie Canal. Frost said she had relatives who used to live on Parker Street, so she remembers the area being filled with people attending church services, dressed to the nines in their Sunday best.

The threat of her family’s separation and her difficult marriage forced Tubman to take action. On September 17, 1849, Tubman and her two brothers set out to escape the plantation, heading north. Her brothers soon turned back, and Tubman completed her journey alone with the help of the Underground Railroad on the nearly hundred-mile journey to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. But her dreams of flying over corn and cotton, the North Star beckoning, did not end with her finding liberty.
